Now there's a title for you.
As of writing this, there are 27 days until Christmas.
I always enjoy Christmas,
but I am a bit more ready for it this year for some reason.
I know that sounds silly.
Well, maybe it is.
I am not one to deck the place out in lights
in Graceland fashion.
I am more a "let's add some greens over here" sorta decorator.
It's really about the feeling of the season.
Folks are generally kinder.
Although I've seen far fewer shoppers this year so far,
there is still a sweetness to the season.
We have had temperatures in the 20s and low 30s,
but Thursday, the possibility bureau is predicting a chance of snow.
I wanted to build a snow lantern last year,
but I had to work the one time when we had the right kind of snow.
Yes for you southerners,
there are different kinds of snow.
Also, if you don't know what a snow lantern is,
here let me show you.
Doesn't it look simply magical?
There is still an autumn wreath hanging on our front door.
This weekend, the transformation will take place
and the Christmas sign will be hung.
I've already had my hand in the jar of candy-canes.
Oops!
I wasn't supposed to admit that (heehee).
I realize all this seems silly,
but the reason we celebrate is for All Knowing Love.
If we can share some joy and glad tidings,
shouldn't we do so?
Now, I ask you . . .

Nope, never seen a snow lantern before! It immediately reminded me of a pile of toasting marshmallows. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say I've pared way down on my Christmas decorating. Not that I don't love it, but it makes the clean up so much easier. I guess I just don't have the energy for going all out these days! Nowadays, I'd rather just enjoy a simple holiday with simple pleasures.
Never Ever heard of a snow lantern, how lovely that is. We have different snows here in Ohio, (NE), depending on whether it comes over Lake Erie, it could be really fluffy, or really wet and heavy. As for decorations, I'm leaning now to more simple, I don't have to put everything out, lots of natural looking items, greenery and pinecones . Putting it all up has been more fun than taking it down for years and years. Leigh was right it does look like marshmallows roasting.

ReplyDeleteOur decorating this year is a whole lot simplified after getting rid of our horrible shedding artificial tree that was really too big for the space. The lights had all burned out on it so DH had to put them on and it was nothing but a complete hassle. We're not allowed real trees in our building so we went out and bought a new (non-shedding!) and much smaller tree. That, as often happens, led to the need to downsize the volume of ornaments we had. We only kept ornaments that we both liked - the rest are gone and hopefully blessing someone else.
I stumbled onto your blog via another blog I follow. We are very slow to be motivated for Christmas this year. We are going simple, as I am terribly missing my Mom. Last year. we were so busy tearing out the entire living room floor, that I don't think we had time to "feel" and got through the days. It's a bit rough this year, but we are slowly moving.
ReplyDeleteOh I love Tasha Tudor...the snow lantern looks so magical, but I've never tried to make one. I hope you get the "right kind of snow" again so you can make one for yourself!
